Dated, heavy-handed filming of well-regarded topical play by Ron Cowen. Kirk Douglas produced this highly contrived family melo as a showcase for son Michael, who stars as a sensitive young man who faces a crisis when he's called up to serve in the Vietnam war. You've seen it all before:
parents Jack Warden and Barbara Bel Geddes try to understand their son, but can't bridge the generation gap; Douglas just wants to play his music and hang out with his groovy friends. In the end, father talks son out of fleeing to Canada, but parents' values are glibly refuted by new of the boy's
death in Vietnam.
