Boni is the geriatric Joujou, once a renowned beauty and mistress of famous men whose current millionaire lover has a sick son, the moribund Alcon. The elderly eccentric importunes her granddaughter, Borges, to help make the dying boy's last days happy ones, promising her the reward of a

trip to Europe and a new wardrobe. Although the sick boy repulses her, Borges agrees to bring him what joy she can. The prescription pays off: Alcon gains weight and vitality with his growing interest in romance. His recovery is such that he accedes to the seductive wiles of his servant, Possamay.

Discovering that he enjoys the process, he persuades Borges to make love and spends the summer in an idyllically hyperaesthetic state of mind. When Alcon's physicians declare him cured of his once-terminal ailment, the ecstatic youth proposes to Borges. She confesses her opportunistic bargain with

her grandmother and rejects his offer. Depressed, Alcon commits suicide. A cruel, clever look at the ironies of romantic entanglements by Torre-Nilsson, one of South America's foremost directors. (In Spanish; English subtitles.)
