A phony documentary of dubious intentions, STRIPPER gives its audience all the titillation of a cheap strip show without making much of an attempt to explore the characters it films. It pretends to show a random sampling of strippers (all of whom are strippers in real life, one of the

few authentic aspects of the film) who are preparing for a strip contest in Las Vegas, but there is clearly a director's hand behind the camera, pulling all the strings. Scenes are re-created for the camera and, most objectionable of all, so is the entire climactic strip contest. Director Jerome

Gary, the man who produced the fine documentary PUMPING IRON, should take another look at that film--a real documentary--and stop passing off his exploitation as legitimate.
