Director Elia Kazan and most of the cast of the smash Broadway production made the trek west for the film version of Tennessee Williams controversial play, save one: Jessica Tandy, who studio chiefs felt wasn't well known enough to reprise her star turn as Blanche DuBois on the big screen.
