Reagan's first film appearance after his military duty finds him playing a veterinarian in Southern California who treats Smith's prize horse and winds up falling in love with the owner. But the horse gets sick again, and when Smith calls Reagan he is too busy treating an outbreak of

anthrax among a herd of cattle to help. Smith doesn't like this and neither do the rest of the local horse breeders, giving Reagan's writer buddy Scott a chance to ask for Smith's hand in marriage. Reagan has contracted a case of anthrax himself and is all but given up for dead until Smith gives

him an injection of the serum he used on the cattle. The doctor is saved and is able to continue pursuing his romance with Smith as Scott gracefully bows out. Originally, Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall were to have the roles assigned Scott and Smith, but they backed out a week before shooting.

Perhaps they could have had some success in making these characters come alive. But the film's failure is as much the screenwriter's fault as the actors', since the writer relied too heavily upon dialog to move the plot along.
