Two hundred years in the future, a bank robbery is foiled and the desperate robber, Grange (Michael Pare), is banished to a penal mining colony on Proxima Centauri 3. Also on the planet are bounty hunter Walker (John Laughlin) and the Colonel (Richard Farnsworth), an old codger who was

once the best cop in Los Angeles. The Colonel and Walker soon have to join forces when the brutal Grange tries to escape. An uneasy blend of science fiction and western, SPACE RAGE does have some things going for it. Pare, usually cast as a hero, is a terrific villain. Farnsworth is a little

ridiculous as he goes through the obligatory arming-up scene, but his is always a welcome presence in any movie. The hard rock soundtrack is a bad idea, but the action scenes are mostly well done. There is some dark humor here as well.
