Business entrepreneur Andrews pays Segal, a penniless American geologist, and several other experts and fortune hunters to uncover a large diamond, known as the "Southern Star." Segal, along with his companion, Sekka, finds the diamond and takes it back to Andrews. During a party held to celebrate the find, the lights go out.
