Jackie Chan executes one gravity-defying stunt after another in this kinetically directed martial arts picture, a world-class blast for fans. A 200-year-old feud intensifies at the end of China's Ching Dynasty, as a sinister nobleman

systematically rubs out practitioners of the Snake Fist technique and forces

kickboxers to adopt the Eagle Claw style. The Grand Master of the Eagle's Claw school has already eliminated 3000 students and hires outside mercenaries &#151 including an ersatz minister — to locate the Snake Fist Grand Master. The Owner of the Dragon Fist, who's managed stay out of the feud, entrusts his academy to teacher named Li (Dean Shek). Eager to swell the school's attendance rolls, Li futilely tries to impress the pudgy son of a fat cat bureaucrat. As always, Li uses the school janitor Chien Fu (Jackie Chan) as a demonstration model/human punching bag. As Li's students continue to defect to a rival academy, Chien Fu befriends a wizened old man without realizing that the homeless senior citizen is the Master of Snake Fist, Pai Cheng-Cheh (Yuen Hsaio

Tieng), the only living representative of his endangered discipline. Pai spots the low-born janitor's natural agility and instructs him in the forbidden moves. Pai turns Chien Fu into a dynamo who even enriches the old-school fundamentals with his own invention, "the cat's claw." Although he's become a formidable scrapper, Chien Fu must still prove himself worthy of his fugitive benefactor and defeat those committed to making the Snake Fist extinct. The production values may be threadbare, but you don’t need lavish sets and thousands of extras when you've got spectacular stunt work from trained boxers and the nascent star power of a youthful Jackie Chan.
