This low-budget feature from independent filmmaker Jost is thoroughly intriguing despite technical shortcomings that would usually cause viewer disinterest. Rogers and Gaddis play complete strangers who meet and almost instantly fall in love on San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge. As

their affair develops, they are faced with a desperate money shortage and decide to wander across the country in a beat-up car. Gaddis takes to stealing from stores on the backroads and is eventually killed when one store owner refuses to allow him a free hand in the cash register. Jost kept the

film's two stars from meeting before production began, hoping to capture their first meeting in front of the cameras. Unfortunately, this falls flat; neither Gaddis nor Rogers shows enough interest in the other to be believable as lovers. With only Jost and one other person (Rick Schmidt) as the

crew, SLOW MOVES took only four-and-a-half days to shoot and cost a meager $8,000.
