All is not calm and all is not bright in this alleged sequel to the infamous 1984 release. Least bright of all are the filmmakers who thought they could capitalize on the controversy surrounding the original movie. This is not so much a sequel as it is a rerun of the first film, since a

great deal of footage from SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT appears here; but PART II is even poorer than its predecessor in every way. The acting is blah, the script is lame, the direction is dumb, and the editing is as pretentious as anything you may have ever seen. PART II picks up the action years

after the first film, as a nutso young man (Eric Freeman) realizes it's Christmas Eve, dons his red-and-white suit, and departs on a murderous Yuletide rampage. The ways in which the psycho Santa kills are ingenious as well as disgusting: he blows off the top of one man's head by cramming live

battery chargers down the guy's gullet, and he impales another with an umbrella, then opens it. If the writers had taken as much care with the dialog and the plot as they did with the murders, the movie might have risen from dreadful to mediocre.
