In the sequel to SECRET GAMES, director Gregory Hippolyte and star Martin Hewitt return to remind viewers what a burden it is to be rich, attractive, and naked.
Poor Kyle (Hewitt). The love, or at least the lust, has gone out of his marriage to college professor Heather (Marie Leroux) since he gave up his career as a respected art critic to try his hand at performance art. In Heather's eyes, he's lost his ambition, and she just doesn't respect him
anymore. When she leaves, hoping to force Kyle to think things over, he calls a hooker, beguiling Stacey (Amy Rochelle), who uses all the feminine wiles and lingerie she can muster to make Kyle her slave. Meanwhile, poor young, blonde, busty, and beautiful Irene (Sara Suzanne Brown) arrives to
look over Kyle's house, which he has put up for sale to underwrite his art career. She comes back for an affair because her plumbing-obsessed husband Bill (Mark T. Paladini) doesn't provide the romance and sensuality she needs as a woman. Kyle falls in love with Stacey, who doesn't love him, while
Irene falls in love with Kyle, who doesn't love her. Kyle dumps Heather, then Stacey dumps Kyle, then Kyle dumps Irene. Kyle considers he's done Irene a favor by making her stronger just as Stacey has made him stronger.
More sober, serious and better-acted than the original, SECRET GAMES 2 is also a crashing bore. This time emulating ANNIE HALL more than BELLE DU JOUR, Hippolyte has his principals step out of what little action there is and speak directly to the camera, giving the viewer insight into their
thoughts and feelings. But what SECRET GAMES 2 gains in human interest, it loses in salacious excess--where are the bedrooms with the mink-covered bars on the windows, the hookers covertly skittering around Beverly Hills at night in high heels, the gratuitous lingerie shows and the heartwarming
lesbian frolicking? Fans of the first film are likely to be disappointed. (Nudity, adult situations, sexual situations, profanity.)
