Filmed in a very self-conscious 1940s B-movie style, SCREAMPLAY centers on Edgar Allen (Rufus Butler Seder, who also directed the film), an aspiring young screenwriter. On arriving in Hollywood, he meets an agent who promises to add Allen to his stable of talent if he can produce a good

horror film script quickly. Allen then meets Martin (George Kuchar), an avant-garde filmmaker, who happens to be the caretaker of the seedy Welcome Apartments. Needing a place to live and having little money, Allen accepts a job as the building's janitor in exchange for an apartment. Soon the

strange residents of the building are being incorporated into his horror screenplay. Director Seder, like any creative filmmaker hamstrung with a tiny budget, employs such tried-and-true effects as rear-screen projection, forced perspective, and multiple exposures to create a unique and vivid

cinematic universe, somewhat overcoming the tired story and lacklustre acting.
