After a purportedly spectacular but off-screen heist of a Marine base payroll, a gang of paramilitary types led by Corbin (Ted Vernon) hijacks a DC-3 with its pilot and his daughter (Victoria Christian). The thieves are double-crossed when one gang member jumps out with the money after

gassing the others. The rest of the gang come back looking for blood, landing in a wild, remote area where dozens of scarecrows hang in groups throughout the dark woods. These scarecrows, it turns out, do in their victims with scythes, then gut them and stuff them with straw. The victims come back

to life themselves, proving very difficult for their former comrades to rekill. SCARECROWS is impressively obstinate in its refusal to explain just what the heck is going on. The sense of foreboding is surprisingly high, though the performances are two-dimensional at best.
