[1984, Movie, PG, 92 mins]
Scandalous: Review
Murder mystery/comedy about a television news reporter, Frank Swedlin (Hays), who is framed for the murder of his wife. His comfy life as the network chief's son-in-law quickly deteriorates when he discovers that he is the victim of a blackmail scheme engineered by con artists Fiona (Stephenson) and Willie (Gielgud). Before long Frank and Fiona get entangled in a heated romance in spite of their mistrust of each other. Rob Cohen attempts a hip parody of the mystery genre here and fails. The script falls back on such weak stabs at humor as forcing the distinguished British actor John Gielgud to indulge in some of his ARTHUR-like gags, including dressing him up as a Japanese businessman and then as a punk-rock fan attending a concert.
