It is the 1870s, and Montgomery is a soldier of fortune who has been sentenced to five years for killing a man in a duel over the man's wife. He's sent to a Spanish penal colony in the Philippines that is run by Roland, a real humanitarian who tries to make the colony of Samar more a

model community than a prison. Also arriving is Rodann, the daughter of a Spanish official. Minardos is a Spanish inspector who disapproves of the model setting and demands that Roland explain himself to his superiors. Instead, Roland destroys the camp, takes Minardos hostage, and heads with the

prisoners for a secluded valley hidden within the jungle. En route they are attacked by headhunters, who kill Minardos. Fighting off the overwhelming forces of nature, which includes storms and high mountains, the group pushes onward. Roland is hit by a poison dart, and doctor Montgomery is forced

to amputate his benefactor's arm so that the man might live. They finally reach the secluded valley and there set up a new community. Action and adventure abound in this film, steeped in macho tradition. Montgomery, in addition to starring, also produced, directed, and cowrote the feature. His

weakest point is the writing, which never really fleshes out the characters.
