An unrelentingly idiotic adventure story about Dale (Brooke Shields), the daughter of Detroit car designer R.J. Gordon (Steve Forrest). When he dies during a test run, Dale agrees to take his place in a treacherous endurance race through the Sahara. It's the 1920s, however, and women

aren't allowed behind the wheel, so Dale dons a hat and mustache and passes herself off as a man. Complications arise when tribal wars make the Sahara dangerous and Dale winds up as a prisoner of Rasoul (John Rhys-Davies), a mad sheik. One of the dumbest films in recent memory to worm its way into

theaters, SAHARA thankfully received such a lousy response in its test screenings that it was never released east of the Mississippi River. Shields, who hasn't been good in a film since her PRETTY BABY (1978) debut, is simply embarrassing, while the rest of the cast makes the best of an impossible

situation. In all fairness, however, the blame really lies with the awful script and the catatonic direction. No excitement is ever achieved, the laughs come at all the wrong places, and the romance is cardboard.
