is his homosexual sponsor. Furneaux, a singer, does nothing but sleep with men, and Fabrizi gives up his art and marries a German woman 20 years older than himself. As the colony's numbers diminish through suicide and departure, fresh young faces filled with hope turn up to take their places.

Expatriate American actor Nicol plays a would-be sculptor who stays in the environs only because he enjoys the lifestyle in this lowbrow, nonmusical rehash of Giacomo Puccini's opera "La Boheme."
