Stacy Keach stars in this Hitchcockian Australian thriller as a road-addled trucker on a Melbourne-to-Perth run who begins following news accounts of a series of murders. Soon he begins to suspect that the driver of the black van he has seen periodically is the killer of pretty, young

hitchhikers, and he takes it upon himself to investigate-- especially after he sees a hitchhiker he has befriended (Curtis) accept a ride. Suspenseful throughout most of its running time and exceedingly well shot, ROAD GAMES collapses at the end. The confrontation between Keach and the killer is a

let-down. Although director Franklin has definitely studied his Hitchcock (he would go on to direct PSYCHO II), his film lacks the psychological depth of the master's work. Keach, however, is very engaging as the eccentric hero.
