Chandler plays the officer in charge of bringing fuel to Gen. George Patton's tanks as they make their rush towards Paris in WW II. Along with the demands of the 24-hour-a-day job, Chandler must also contend with a spiteful and mistrusting sergeant, Nicol, as well as a black soldier,

Poitier, who feels he is the victim of racial prejudice. But Chandler proves worthy of the task, convincing both men that he is only doing his job, thus warranting a deep-felt respect. The cliched script is astutely handled by director Boetticher, who combines action, drama, and even some comic

situations into a well-paced blend.
