American journalist Beth Winters (Judy Morris) travels to Australia to do a story on the illegal hunting of kangaroos. After she meets with hostility from outback locals, her car is run off the road. While she pulls herself to safety, Beth is attacked and killed by an enormous wild pig.

Her husband, Carl (Gregory Harrison), goes to find out what happened and meets Jake (Bill Kerr), whose baby grandson was earlier carried off by the mutant porker and who has dedicated his life to hunting it down. Carl isn't convinced, however, until he barely escapes the monster himself; then he

helps Jake track it to a dog-food factory run by a couple of sleazy types who actually feed the awful creature. Only fitfully interesting, RAZORBACK boasts a truly original monster (the giant pig runs through a house like a freight train), but the real horror lies with the totally repulsive

brothers who run the dog-food factory and slaughter kangaroos. Although director Russell Mulcahy and cinematographer Dean Semler (THE ROAD WARRIOR [1982]) present a slick-looking film, the action is sometimes too repetitive (and sometimes simply too silly) to be truly engaging. Mulcahy would go on

to make the equally superficial HIGHLANDER (1986).
