A fine, little-appreciated western starring Lake as the firebrand daughter of spineless and seedy ranchowner Ruggles, who has allowed himself to become the lackey of big-shot cattleman Foster. Lake, who is trying to operate a sheepherding ranch, soon becomes enraged by Foster's efforts

(with her father's acquiescence) to run her out of business. Seeking vengeance, she organizes her own gang of guerrillas to fight fire with fire, much to the dismay of noble ranch hand McCrea, who attempts to be the voice of reason. That voice, however, is drowned out by the thundering hoofbeats

of Lake and Foster's warring factions, and after much senseless bloodshed McCrea is forced to settle things himself by killing Foster and riding off in disgust. RAMROD boasts a superb supporting cast, gorgeous black-and-white photography, and a hard-hitting, grimly realistic screenplay that

continues to reveal new facets even after several viewings.
