In episode five of this seemingly endless series, Capt. Harris (G.W. Bailey), still conniving for a promotion, reveals that the endearingly disoriented Police Academy Commandant Lassard (George Gaynes) is past mandatory retirement age. Officials plan to honor Lassard on the eve of his

retirement at a celebration in Miami Beach, leaving the sneaky Harris to finally get Lassard's job. This gives the loyal core of Academy graduates (Bubba Smith, David Graf, Michale Winslow, and Leslie Easterbrook) a new venue in which to wreak their standard havoc, and they rise to the occasion

while doing what they can to forestall the retirement of the beloved Lassard. Aside from merely rehearsing its by now standard formula (the only real "twist" is in transplanting the action to Miami), POLICE ACADEMY 5 presents a patchwork of ideas borrowed from a score of wittier and better-done

comedies, not to mention earlier entries in the series. In short, it's exactly what you would expect it to be.
