Big city melodrama starring Young as a naive girl who falls in love and marries Foster, a man with a nasty penchant for gambling. The honeymoon ends soon for the couple when Foster's obsession with the horses slowly leads the two on the road to ruin, leaving Young to try and scrape by on

her own during the Depression. The climax, in which a pregnant Young's distraught face is superimposed over footage of a horse race that she has bet the family nest-egg on (to insure her child's future), drew laughs from the audience back in 1932. Only point of historical interest is the

photography by Gregg Toland, who later shot Orson Welles' CITIZEN KANE.
