A "Pygmalion in Panama" as playboy Kemmer meets native girl Verdugo and tries to transform her into a Beverly Hills socialite. He meets her in a Panamanian waterfront saloon where she sings her heart out night after night. Kemmer promises her stardom in Hollywood so she goes back to the

States with him. But the new setting proves to be too much and she runs away. Kemmer chases her for he realizes he loves her. Verdugo sings vigorously, but otherwise her performance is lacklustre. The script develops slowly and contains insipid dialog, while the direction is little more than a

camera pointed at the action, never adding anything to the proceedings. PANAMA SAL was filmed in black and white with a Naturama processing that falls off around the edges, causing further distraction to an already troubled film.
