An attempt to duplicate the success of the HARDY FAMILY series with an all-black cast, ONE DARK NIGHT was the first entry in a proposed series dealing with the Brown family. Moreland stars as the clan's father who is thrown out of the house when fellow family members tire of his lazy ways.

He travels to the desert, where he discovers radium and becomes a rich man. He buys a nightclub owned by Criner and then thwarts the villain's attempts to woo daughter Pearson. The film includes some extremely poor production work, which does little to enhance the plodding story. The music

provides the highlights, with numbers including "West of Harlem" (performed by Skinner and the Four Tones); "Shake and Break It" (performed by Logan, Thomas, Pearson); "Sharpest Man in Town" and "Alone Again" (performed by Logan), all by Lew Porter and Johnny Lange.
