A typical grade Z slice-and-dicer, OFFERINGS replays for the umpteenth time the HALLOWEEN-FRIDAY THE 13TH plot of childhood cruelties that are violently avenged years later by a virtually unstoppable maniac. While this low-budget programmer has little to recommend it, competent

storytelling and a couple of amusing performances elevate it somewhat. John, a seven-year-old near-genius loses the ability to speak when his father deserts him and his mother. Only a pretty little girl named Gretchen wants to be his friend while the other kids torment him at every opportunity. As

the film kicks into gear ten years later, John (Richard A. Buswell) escapes from the mental institution where he has been a patient. Boasting little that distinguishes it from the plethora of similar films, OFFERINGS at least progresses in logical sequence--which is more than can be said for most

films of this genre. Nevertheless, the movie is flat and predictable.
