This laughable film was directed by Harry Essex, who borrowed heavily from his own screenplay for THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, written nearly 20 years before. Brave but stupid explorers Kerwin Matthews, Pier Angeli, and company venture into the wilds of Mexico, where they discover a

rather silly looking monster-octopus that lumbers about the terra firma on two legs like a man. Not only is the Octaman malformed, he possesses only six tentacles as opposed to the usual eight (a budgetary consideration makeup man Rick Baker was forced to contend with), which makes the creature

less than terrifying. The usual monster-wreaks-havoc-on-the-expedition scenes are filmed with little skill or imagination. Angeli, the former James Dean flame, came out of semiretirement to star in this one, but died tragically from a barbiturate overdose while the film was still in production.
