One of the most refreshing things about Clark Gable was that he was willing to act his age. What's more, he was willing to make jokes about it and let his scriptwriters do the same. But that is about the only thing holding together this romantic comedy based on Samson Raphaelson's play
"Accent on Youth." A reluctantly aging Broadway producer is having script trouble with his latest play, "A May-December Romance." He is about to throw in the towel when his 22-year-old secretary (Baker) berates him for quitting while at the same time declaring her love for him. In a flash he sees
the solution to his problem: reverse the situation and have the older man being pursued by the young girl instead of vice versa. He talks the author (Cobb), a disillusioned drunk, into sobering up long enough for a rewrite and, of course, gives the girl friend the female lead. The play is a hit,
but when in his state of bliss he decides to marry Baker, she tells him she really loves a young actor, that the marriage would be a mistake, but blesses him for having "the wisdom that comes with age." Jolted back to reality, Gable decides to admit his age and start life anew by remarrying
wonderfully mature and always desirable Lilli Palmer. The movie has some bright spots but generally does not click as a whole. Gomez gives a good performance as a Hollywood film tycoon of Greek origin. The title song is beautifully sung by Ella Fitzgerald behind the main titles. (Remake of ACCENT
