Genn and Campbell are a couple in the middle of a messy divorce case. At the center of their struggle is their 12-year-old daughter, Scott. Genn marries John and Campbell marries Middleton. They argue back and forth over custody rights and child psychiatry. This all proves to be too much

for the sensitive girl and she runs away. She finally finds happiness with another family and the sympathetic Jenkins. Rather than playing this as a psychological portrayal of an unhappy child, the production emphasizes the sentimental and sugary aspects of the drama. Motivations and resolutions

are simplistic and predictable. The players are believable but really not much more. Not too surprisingly, this was a box-office smash.
