Lombard is the poor-little-rich-girl who falls in love with the penniless Talbot. Her father (Connolly) wants to see his daughter happy, but Lombard's uncle (Smith) is determined that she will marry into royalty. Connolly's bank faces financial disaster, and he appeals to his brother for a

loan. Smith agrees on the condition that Lombard marry a prince (Thomas). She reluctantly consents to the wedding, but Connolly and his mother (Hale) arrange for Lombard to reunite with Talbot out in the country. Connolly prepares to fly back to meet his brother. Knowing that his insurance policy

will cover his financial troubles, Connolly crashes his airplane so his daughter can marry the man she loves. This early Lombard feature shows that the great comedic actress was equally capable of doing drama. She portrays her character well, with good support by the ensemble. Connolly is

particularly effective as the ruined businessman. The suicide ending was a real shocker for its day and a disappointing surprise for audiences conditioned for happy endings. But the device works well in this entertaining, though very minor film. Script and direction are sharp, keeping the pace

moving well.
