Lemaire's girl, comes under suspicion when her older friend Manes is murdered by Carletti's ex-employer, gangster Ardan, who is then killed in an auto accident. Pascal tries to clear the girl's name by telling police that Lemaire and Carletti were together at the time of the murder. Eventually

Lemaire and Pellegrin discover the former professions of their respective loves and, though the latter is accepting of this, Lemaire is appalled and leaves Carletti. The film opened in France seven years earlier than the US release.
