Kanin was still learning the ropes as a director (this was his second film) and it showed in this implausible yarn. Ball stars as a woman who stands to inherit $20 million if she'll marry a "real American." Her heart belongs to foreigner Bowman, but she picks Ellison as her husband to

qualify for the fortune. Ellison is a ditch-digger and Ball's plan is to head for Reno and a divorce as soon as she gets the money. On the trip to Nevada, Ball and Ellison bicker and battle, all the while becoming closer to one another and finally realizing they are in love. Ball is in good

comedic form and she works well with Ellison, but the film suffers from too much action that goes unexplained. A wild ride by trailer to Reno is similar to one that would appear in a film Ball made with her husband, Desi Arnaz, in THE LONG, LONG TRAILER (1954).
