The donkey becomes ill and the boy persists in bringing it to the tomb of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals. Eventually, after meeting with the Pope, the boy is permitted to take his pet to the tomb. Manunta, as the boy, gives a charming performance, proving to be a natural actor.
