The thin story line of NEPTUNE'S DAUGHTER revolves around swimming star Esther Williams as Eve Barrett, a partner in a bathing suit company (with Keenan Wynn), who must continually fight off the advances of millionaire playboy Jose O'Rourke (Ricardo Montalban). At the same time, her

dim-witted sister, Betty (Betty Garrett), is on the make for Jack Spratt (Red Skelton), a masseur whom she has mistaken for the impossibly wealthy Jose. But this only serves as the framework for a showcase of song, dance, and other fanfare, all combined effectively by director Edward Buzzell.

Among the film's major attractions are Skelton's comic routines, which contribute a steady supply of hilarity, and the Oscar-nominated "Baby, It's Cold Outside" (Frank Loesser, sung by Williams and Montalban and reprised by Garrett and Skelton). Other numbers include "I Love Those Men" (sung by

Garrett) and "My Heart Beats Faster" (Loesser, sung by Williams, Montalban).
