Pollmann, the daughter of a banker, breaks off her engagement with Hugo Thimig, on the day she is supposed to marry him. She meets Alexander, a man whose philosophy is that there is money lying on the street and it simply needs to be picked up. She happens to fit the bill and the pair run off together.
