Pollmann, the daughter of a banker, breaks off her engagement with Hugo Thimig, on the day she is supposed to marry him. She meets Alexander, a man whose philosophy is that there is money lying on the street and it simply needs to be picked up. She happens to fit the bill and the pair run

off together. Notable only for the appearance of Hedwig Kiesler, who later changed her name to Lamarr. Only 17 years old at the time, she was spotted by director Jacoby among the observers on the set, where she was serving as a script girl. He thought she was attractive enough to don a black

evening gown and sit at a table with the elegant comic Alexander as the camera turned on a nightclub scene. Afterward, she again took up the script, but the experience was a turning point in her life--she wanted no other career than acting. (In German.)
