A Modern Affair: Review
Grace (Lisa Eichhorn) is a single businesswoman whose biological clock is ticking so loudly she decides to go ahead and have a baby, even though there's no man in her life. Peter (Stanley Tucci) is a gloomy photographer who supplements his income by donating his most precious bodily essence to a New York City sperm bank. Are you beginning to see the possibilities for sophisticated romantic comedy? We thought not. For all its sitcom contrivances, MODERN AFFAIR just isn't very funny, a situation not at all helped by the fact that Grace and Peter are conceived as inarticulate oafs. Eichhorn and Tucci, both subtle and appealing performers, do their best, but they are very poorly served by the writer-director team of Paul Zimmerman and Vern Oakley.
