This heavy-handed political satire, delivered in the form of a comic strip, stars Abbey as an American super hero. He wears a combination space suit and football uniform to fight for the continuation of democracy and to save France from the communists. Offering the French a type of freedom

dependent upon his own restrictions, Abbey asks them to keep blacks in their place and buy only American goods. However, Abbey has confrontations with other comic strip characters who represent opposing ideals. These include Red China Man, Christ Man, and Moujik (Russian) Man. In the end, Abbey

decides that France is not worthy of his freedom, so he blows it up with an atom bomb. The picture manages to convey some genuinely interesting caricatures and situations, but director William Klein's entire approach is too redundant and fails to offer any true insights into French politics.
