After the death of his mother, North (from TV's "Dennis the Menace" series) goes off to India to join Walker, the father he idolizes. But the lad is disillusioned when he discovers that his big-game hunting pop is now a coward after a nasty encounter with a tiger. When Walker kills a

cheetah that North was domesticating, it's all a little much for the boy and he runs off. He meets Kahn, an Indian boy who promised his dying father that he would deliver a sacred white elephant to a jungle temple. After battling various jungle tigers and the evil Johar, the two boys are surprised

to find Walker. Apparently he's been to the Wizard of Oz, now he has some courage. Together, they deliver the baby elephant and all ends happily. The dopey story and ham-bone acting was salvaged by a nice job with the photography, which used the India locales to their best advantage. Otherwise

this one is best left for the kids, who undoubtedly will delight in seeing the baby elephant. MAYA was later adapted into a short-lived television series.
