Following their triumphant parody of film noir, DEAD MEN DON'T WEAR PLAID (1982), comedian Steve Martin and director Carl Reiner took on the mad-scientist films of the 1940s, with hilarious results. Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr (Martin), a famed neurosurgeon, travels to Vienna with his

beautiful-but-frigid wife, Dolores (deliciously vixenish Kathleen Turner), in an attempt to revive their romance. There he meets fellow scientist Dr. Alfred Necessiter (David Warner), who has devised a method to keep disembodied brains alive. Hfuhruhurr begins to communicate telepathically with a

brain in a jar; the brain is that of a sweet, sympathetic woman (the voice of Sissy Spacek) with whom he falls hopelessly in love. Desperate to consummate his love, Hfuhruhurr decides to plant the brain in the body of a beautiful woman--but where to find a fresh corpse? Enter the dreaded Elevator

Killer.

Carl Reiner, once known chiefly as Mel Brooks' second banana, has stepped in to fill a gap that opened when the formerly able Brooks lost his comic touch. THE MAN WITH TWO BRAINS, which never ceases to amuse, is at its best when most outrageous--as when Hfuhruhurr and his beloved brain enjoy

their first kiss (he applies a pair of wax lips to the jar), or when Martin mimes the effects of prolonged sexual abstinence--and wait till you find out who the Elevator Killer is!
