Against the backdrop of the French Revolution, a most unlikely (and unbelievable) romance takes place. Carroll is an aristocratic lady, loved by Aherne, a lawyer of the people. Though initially spurning him, Carroll marries him after the revolution begins. When Aherne offers to go to the

guillotine to save her life, the aristocrat turns herself in. However, goodness triumphs in the end as a forged pardon saves both their lives. At the time this film was released, Carroll and Aherne were two of England's leading stars. But this trite material was well below both their talents.

Supposedly director Fogwell's most ambitious film at the time, it rightly took a critical pounding.
