After their elopement becomes public knowledge, newlyweds Margaret Sullavan and Douglass Montgomery leave their small German town for Weimar-era Berlin, where they move in with Montgomery's stepmother, Catherine Doucet, in what is eventually revealed to be a well-disguised, high-class

bordello. Montgomery quits his menial job in a department store and the couple leaves, but with nowhere to go. En route, Sullavan gives birth to a son (the "little man" of the title), and Montgomery is offered a job in Holland, allowing them to leave Germany just as the Weimar Republic is about to

collapse. One of the finest (and first) Hollywood films of the 1930s to deal with Germany's political and social crises, LITTLE MAN, WHAT NOW? is also a wonderful love story from Frank Borzage, one of cinema's best directors of romances.
