Had this been a film for adults, it might have been an interesting psycho-drama. Inasmuch as it's aimed at children, it comes across as mean and thoroughly unsuitable for its intended audience. McCallum is a father who doesn't understand the crazy behavior of his kids. There's no attempt at

humor at all in his character; he is more like a tyrant than a father. This was based on a charming children's story, but you'd never guess by the results. Collins was originally a Hollywood director who left the U.S. for Australia.
