Lions Love Movie
An interesting improvisational film done in a sort of Godardian style, LIONS LOVE follows Clarke, an independent filmmaker who wants to make a movie with Viva (star of Andy Warhol films) and Rado and Ragni (the creators of "Hair"). When her backers pull out out on her, Clarke attempts
suicide. The film is an unusual hodge-podge, including television footage of the assassination of Robert Kennedy and scenes from Michael McClure's "The Beard," featuring Dixon and Bright. LIONS LOVE's director, Varda (who went on to make the wonderful feminist film ONE SINGS, THE OTHER DOESN'T),
also makes an appearance here, as do Bogdanovich (before he became a noted director himself) and Constantine. Varda's use of the camera and natural light is fresh and original. Despite its improvisational style, the film looks professional and well planned.
