The second of Columbia's "Henry Aldrich" films, based on a popular radio series and an answer to MGM's "Andy Hardy" movies. This time Cooper plays the gawky hero, though Jimmy Lydon would return to play the title role for the remainder of the series. This time the hapless lad is trying to

raise $100 so he can go to Alaska. But his earnest and well-meaning spirit can't stop the bungling the character is famous for. Here he gets caught up in trouble, ending up accidentally closing a factory. The script stretches the believability factor beyond reason, and the laughs are not as

plentiful as the producers hoped. Still, like all of the Aldrich films, time has given it a certain corny charm, reflective of a more innocent time. Gossip queen Hopper plays Cooper's mother.
