One of the most highly praised films of 1995, director Mike Figgis's adaptation of John O'Brien's cult novel perhaps wasn't the best written — some of the diaglogue is downright clunkly — but it was certainly among the best acted. Nicolas Cage won a Best Actor Oscar for his fearless portrayal of an alcoholic who moves to Vegas with every intention of drinking himself to death.
