THE RETURN OF THE TALL BLOND MAN WITH ONE BLACK SHOE, continues the exploits of klutzy amateur detective Pierre Richard, who is here paired with logic-obsessed investigator Gerard Depardieu. When accident-prone heiress Corynne Charbit disappears in Rio, her father sends Richard and Depardieu to

track her. Richard, who is as clumsy as Charbit, retraces her steps exactly, falling into the same traps and stumbling over the same clues. Not surprisingly, Depardieu is amazed that Richard's methods prove more effective than logic and deduction. Of course, it all works out neatly in the end.

This is a highly entertaining, funny, well-crafted film that boasts a wonderful chemistry between its stars. Depardieu, Richard, and Veber would team up again in 1983 in the superior LES COMPERES. (In French; English subtitles.)
