This grim, hard-hitting crime melodrama offers excellent direction from the always interesting Nicholas Ray and a fine performance from Humphrey Bogart. He plays a crusading attorney whose latest cause involves a young hood (John Derek) accused of murdering a policeman. The kid's motto: "Live fast, die young and have a good-looking corpse."
