Ah, collegiate days in splatter films--where every campus has a hushed-up skeleton in its closet (this one even has a guillotine in its warehouse) and a mad slasher preying on coeds and their careless dates. Johnson, Wilkes, and Willis-Burch are friends and pledges at the Sigma Alpha Pi

sorority house. When the sorority plans its annual April Fool's Day dance in an old frat house--abandoned for 20 years after a pledge was decapitated there in a hazing accident--the boy's spirit (he's buried in the backyard) comes back and possesses Johnson. She dispatches hapless victims with the

usual bewildering array of techniques, including drowning, decapitation (by guillotine), a claw hammer to the head, electrocution, a shovel to the face, and an auger from a heating duct. (Sometimes she wears a deep-sea diving helmet and suit.) Although not on a level with HALLOWEEN, KILLER PARTY

does have its moments--most of them with stuffy professor Bartel (who has an electric line shoved into his neck) or weirdo Seymour (who actually gets to survive the film by leaving the party early). The killings are virtually bloodless or take place off screen, and the film even comes close to

creating a little tension.
