Slow-moving recounting of the life of western anti-hero Billy the Kid. Murphy, in his first western, plays the kid as a sympathetic young man who turns to violence after the rancher who was helping him reform is murdered. He goes off on a string of murders before he is gunned down by
Wilcox. The filmmakers mean well, but the story drags. The photography is magnificent as Technicolor beautifully captures the landscapes of New Mexico where the film was shot.
